Vertical Asymptote
Let R denote a function. If, as x approaches some number c, the values of |R(x)| approach infinity, then the line x = c is a vertical asymptote of the graph of R.
The graph of y = (x + 1) / (x - 1) is shown below. Notice that x = 1 is a vertical asymptote.
